Monarch’s Way Garden

Monarch’s Way is a private garden on Park Lane, just off Port Lane. Eileen and Bill Johnson created the garden with love (and a few arguments) from a bare paddock, with some help from their son with the hard landscaping. The garden now extends to almost two acres and includes a Tudor folly, trees, shrubs, beautiful borders, English roses, a wild jungle with towering bamboos and bananas, and a fish pond with water lilies. Eileen and Bill are complete amateur horticulturalists, but what they have achieved is spectacular. The garden has even won the national first prize for the larger garden section in Perennial’s ‘HortAid‘ award. They open the garden by appointment for groups of four to ten people, and they open it for the National Garden Scheme a few days a year. The proceeds after costs (tea and scones) are always donated to charity.
